Dayton Unknown Rocks

We’ve decided to start a new project/activity in the Dayton area, and we are so excited!

When Bethany visited Richmond, Indiana last year, she discovered the Wayne County Rocks, and was inspired to start this in Dayton!

We are in the process of painting rocks with different designs and will be placiing them around Dayton.

Here are a few examples:

Our goal is for you to find the rocks, take pictures and post them using our hashtags on the back of the rock, and then you have the choice to either re-hide the rock somewhere else (anywhere in the world!), keep it for yourself, or give it away.

Dayton Sideshow 15 is Cancelled

At this time of year, we are typically announcing that one of our favorite events, Dayton Sideshow is coming up. Unfortunately, Dayton Sideshow 15 is cancelled this year, due to the everything going on in the world right now.

Even though Sideshow is cancelled this year, we wanted to show our support and love for this event.

Dayton International Peace Museum

Founded in 2004 by Ralph and Christine Dull, J. Frederick Arment, Lisa Wolters, and Steve Fryburg, the Dayton International Peace Museum was the second of its kind in the United States. The objective of the museum is to inspire peace from local communities to international communities.

The museum is located in the historic Isaac Pollack house, located at 208 West Monument Avenue, at the corner of Wilkinson Street and Monument Avenue.

Crafty Con 2020 is Cancelled

Due to the everything going on in the world right now, one of our favorite events to attend every year, Dayton Crafty Con is cancelled for 2020.

We always look forward to this fundraiser for Sideshow, and are saddened that the event isn’t taking place this year. As of right now, Sideshow is still scheduled for May (look for our post when it’s closer to the event).

Even though Crafty Con is cancelled this year, we wanted to show our support and love for this event.

Bill Yeck – The Father of the Park District

Bill Yeck grew up in the Akron area in the 1920s, and relocated to Washington Township in 1951. Always with an interest in green space and nature, Bill agreed to head up the newly-formed Park District in 1959. His goal for the district was to “Get us more parks and find ways to pay for them.”

While under his direction, the Park District grew to include 43 parks with over 893 acres of open, green spaces. At the time the Park District was formed, there was a state law that allowed only one public park per township and nobody knew what kinds of parks were needed, where parks should be located, or how the parks should be maintained, especially with no funding. Bill Yeck researched, visited other park districts and sought help from experts and enthusiasts to build the Centerville-Washington Park District.

Be Hope Holiday Bazaar

We attended the Be Hope Holiday Bazaar again this year, and had a great time, as usual.

Some of our favorite vendors were:

KenKare Jewelry and Crafts – great rings and jewelry as usual!
Bootleg Bracelets – we always buy their bracelets!
Nailed It – really cool string art!

Be Hope Church Holiday Bazaar

It’s almost time for the Holiday Bazaar at the Be Hope Church (formerly Beavercreek Church of the Nazarene)! We attended last year and loved it!

The Holiday Bazaar was founded in 1992, and is one of the community’s largest craft shows with gifts, homemade treats and handmade crafts, and admission is free!

Windows of Woodland

Have you ever visited the mausoleum at Woodland Cemetery and seen the beautiful stained glass windows all throughout the building? We highly recommend going in person! Also make sure to pick up the brochure with more information about these gorgeous works of art!

We had an absolute blast at Spooky Spectacular Dayton on Friday, October 4th! We got to see all of the fantastic items from all of the vendors and we hosted our Photo Scavenger Hunt!
