Exercise Dayton: Local Activities

Dayton is considered to be the 47th fattest city in America (source) Being healthy and active can be difficult to do alone. These are some local resources in the area to help you keep on track, with both indoor and outdoor options:

Exercise Dayton – Link Bikes

If you’ve been in the downtown Dayton, no doubt you’ve seen the bright green Link Bikes in action.

Riders can access the bikes at any of twenty-four stations throughout the downtown area. Bikes are available for one time users, and memberships are also available. Trips are available for 30 minutes at a time, and if a rider wants to use the bike longer, they can either check the bike back in then check it out again, or they can keep the bike past 30 minutes and pay an additional fee.

Just before the Wright Brothers opened their shop in the spring of 1893, George P. Huffman purchased the Davis Sewing Machine Company and moved the factory to Dayton. By 1892, the first Huffy bicycle was built. Years later in 1924, George’s son Horace founded the Huffman Manufacturing Company and continued to manufacture and sell bicycles under the now well-known name of Huffy.
