Time for another round of small, but interesting facts we’ve found in our research!

• Dayton is the 6th largest city in Ohio.
• There are a few former Indian burial grounds: one at the corner of Water Street (now Monument Avenue) and Beckel Street (Beckel Street still currently exists in part, but no longer intersects with Monument Avenue), one on the Fairgrounds Hill, one on a knoll in Woodland Cemetery, one at the north end of the Dayton View Bridge, and one at the west end of the Third Street Bridge.
• James S. Trent – for whom Trent Arena at Fairmont High School is named – was a superintendent and educator.
• The Dayton Dragons, farm team for the Cincinnati Reds, have played ball downtown since 2000, and recently set the national professional sports record for consecutive sellout home games.
• Kettering Fairmont High School is attended by about 2,500 students, making it the 6th largest high school in Ohio.
• Speedwell Motor Car Company made cars in Moraine for 7 years, the most famous was dubbed as, a “sedan,” which is the first recorded use of the term.
• There are more than fifteen galleries and museums in Downtown Dayton.
• Companies such as Ball Aerospace, Northrup Grumman, General Dynamics, and General Electric – as well as Wright-Patterson Air Force Base – all complement and capitalize on the talent and skills coming out of the local universities each year. Dayton ranks 5th among metropolitan areas for degrees granted in Science and Engineering on the New Economy Index.
• And speaking of local colleges, The Dayton region is home to some of the country’s most respected institutions of higher learning – University of Dayton, Sinclair Community College, Kettering College of Medical Arts, Wright State University, the Air Force Institute of Technology, and ITT Technical Institute.
• You can keep your car running fine with more than 10 different automotive supply and services shops in Downtown Dayton. Just don’t leave it running if you’re not in it!
