Welcome to 2021!

We at Dayton Unknown hope this year will start a return to normal life, but in the meantime, let’s try to enjoy our unique situations!

Dayton Unknown will be hosting a Virtual Quarantine-themed Photo Scavenger Hunt! Instead of meeting in person and everyone takes pictures of the same location, this time the fun can take place at home! All you have to do is take pictures and submit the captioned photos to us at daytonunknown@hotmail.com by March 31st, 2021.

What is a photo scavenger hunt?

A photo scavenger hunt is essentially a scavenger hunt that involves taking photos instead of finding objects. Every group or contestant will receive a list of prompts to encourage creativity and exploration of the area.

Dayton Unknown will be at the entrance to the event to pass out information and goodies. Make sure you come see us!

Dayton Unknown will be on Gem City Tonight!

We’ve been talking about the new local late-night style talk show Gem City Tonight a lot lately, and we are pleased to say that Dayton Unknown will be appearing as guests on the show!

We taped our appearance last night, and had such a blast doing it. The crew and audience were such a great group to be around.

You can watch our segment during the show that will air on Saturday, March 16th at 8pm.

According to DATV’s website, “DATV can be seen exclusively on Spectrum channel 5 in the City of Dayton, Riverside and Butler Twp. and channels 5, 6, or 23 in Dayton’s northern suburbs.” In addition, you can live-stream, and watch on YouTube.

221 Years Ago, Tomorrow

“The boat party was the first to arrive. Rounding the curve in the river, where for so many years since then it has been flowing under the Dayton View bridge, the pioneers perceived before their eyes the swift current of Mad River emptying itself into the main channel, just as it had been described, and saying to each other (so we may imagine), ‘Yes, this must be the place,’ they tied the pirogue to a tree at the head of St. Clair Street and led by Mrs. Thompson, all clambered ashore.

At that moment DAYTON came on the map!”

– Charlotte Reeve Conover, The Story of Dayton.

Two hundred and twenty-one years ago tomorrow, Dayton was founded. To honor this occasion, we decided to share some of our favorite pictures we’ve taken around Dayton.

Also, please send us your favorite picture you’ve taken around Dayton, and we’ll feature it in a future blog post! You can send it to our email at daytonunknown@hotmail.com – and be sure to provide your name for photo credit!
